In this case, I used the Width Stamp Tool to create and control the contour effect on the text. WidthStamp Tool is one of the great tools from Astute Graphics Plugins (Widthscibe). Basically, this tool allows you to manipulate variables stroke live, which also allows you to work non-destructively on lines. This tool is perfect for creating types of line art. I found this quite a time-saver, considering the line effect in Illustrator is quite complicated and time-consuming to work with.
